Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency as Nigeria’s security situation continues to worsen.
Atiku made the appeal on Friday in a statement shared on his Facebook page, reacting to the abduction of students in Niger State. Terrorists had stormed St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, kidnapping more than 50 students and staff.
He questioned why the Tinubu administration has yet to take firm action despite repeated attacks across the country. Describing the latest incident as “heartbreaking,” Atiku said the government must act urgently.
“How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?” he wrote. “It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
