Atlético Madrid have officially secured the signing of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with the 28-year-old penning a contract that keeps him at the club until June 2030.
The Spanish giants confirmed the transfer on Monday, announcing that Lookman passed his medical in Madrid before signing his deal at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano alongside CEO Miguel Ángel Gil.
Lookman arrives after a stellar spell at Atalanta, where he scored 55 goals and provided 27 assists in 137 appearances, and played a decisive role in their historic 2023/24 UEFA Europa League triumph, netting a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Born in London, the forward began his career at Charlton Athletic before stints with Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City. His move to Atalanta in 2022 marked the most prolific chapter of his career.
On the international stage, Lookman represented England at youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2022. Since then, he has earned 41 caps and scored 11 goals for the Super Eagles.
With this signing, Atlético Madrid add one of Europe’s most decisive attackers to their squad, underlining their ambition for the coming seasons.
