Neo Akpofure has demanded a public apology and retraction over allegations of s*xual assault circulating about him on social media.
Through his lawyers at E.L. Akpofure, SAN & Co., he sent a legal notice to an X (formerly Twitter) user, Ms. Arikan Udoka, who made the allegations online.
In her post, Udoka claimed that the alleged incident happened when both of them were students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). She described the encounter as non-consensual and also stated that they had previously been involved in casual s*xual relations.
Akpofure’s legal team strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious, and harmful to his reputation. They said the claims portray him as a s*xual offender and have caused him public embarrassment, emotional distress, and serious personal and professional damage.
The legal notice asked Udoka to immediately delete the post and any related content, publish a public apology, and issue a full retraction of her statements. It also demanded a written undertaking that she would not make any further defamatory comments about him.
The lawyers warned that if she fails to meet these demands within 48 hours, they will begin legal action, including filing a civil suit for defamation under Nigerian law.
Part of the notice reads: “Your allegation is entirely false, malicious and defamatory to say the least.
“It portrays our Client as a sxual offender and a criminal, thereby subjecting him to public odium, reputational injury, emotional distress, and severe personal and professional damage.”
