Bukola Saraki Dismisses Claims Bola Tinubu Betrayed Him

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has rejected allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed him during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki made the clarification during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

He spoke in response to questions about the political and legal battles he faced while serving as Senate President. Saraki said it would be wrong to hold Tinubu responsible for those challenges.

“That’s not fair on President Tinubu. During former President Buhari’s administration, Tinubu didn’t have the say that they claimed he had,” Saraki said.

He explained that Tinubu did not possess the level of influence many people attributed to him within Buhari’s government. He also said the president had no role in the decisions that led to his prosecution at the Code of Conduct Tribunal or the investigations connected to the Offa robbery case.

Saraki stated that his actions as Senate President were guided by what he believed served the country’s interest. He added that those decisions later exposed him to political persecution.

“I was doing what I felt was in the interest of the country as the President of the Senate, and for doing those things I was then persecuted,” he said.

He further maintained that Tinubu was not part of those who initiated or carried out the processes that resulted in the charges brought against him at the time.
