A road accident on Eko Bridge on Sunday morning left one driver injured and caused heavy traffic congestion in Lagos State.

The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. on the inward lane toward NEPA and involved a truck and a white car. The impact led to serious damage to one of the vehicles.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident through a post on its X handle. The agency disclosed that the white car overturned during the collision, while one driver sustained injuries.

Although details about the driver’s condition were not immediately known, LASTMA stated that the injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The agency said, “An accident involving two vehicles occurred on Eko Bridge inward NEPA, prompting the deployment of tow trucks.”

It further explained, “LASTMA personnel and policemen from Ebute Ero Divisional Police Station are currently managing the situation. The driver has been swiftly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“Traffic is being streamlined to one lane, resulting in slow movement with a backlog of traffic at Offin Canal.”

In a subsequent update, LASTMA announced that the damaged vehicles had been removed from the bridge. The agency added that traffic flow along the route was expected to return to normal.

Eko Bridge, which connects major parts of Lagos across the lagoon, carries thousands of vehicles daily. The corridor frequently records accidents that often disrupt movement for several hours.
