The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspects during a raid on an alleged cybercrime training academy in Becki Estate, Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, led to the arrest of two alleged leaders and several trainees who were reportedly undergoing internet fraud training.

EFCC officials also recovered multiple items from the scene, including phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic devices used in the alleged training activities.

According to the commission, the academy allegedly restricted the movement of trainees, confiscated their phones, and isolated them from external contact to control their activities.

Investigations further revealed that some of the trainees were allegedly recruited from Benue State under the guise of job opportunities, but were later introduced to cyber fraud training using computers and specialized software.

The EFCC also alleged that trainees who disobeyed rules within the facility were subjected to physical punishment.

The anti-graft agency said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
