Nigerian Breweries Plc has confirmed that a fire broke out at a leased warehouse in Aba, Abia State, used for storing empty plastic crates.
The company said the fire was eventually brought under control and no casualties or injuries were recorded.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon and caused panic among residents in the area as the fire spread near the Nigerian Railways station and affected nearby property.
Emergency responders, including the Abia State Fire Service, arrived at the scene and worked with other agencies to prevent the fire from spreading further and causing more damage.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, the Abia State Government said it is still gathering information about what happened.
The Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, urged the public to ignore misleading videos circulating online about the incident.
He said:
“This is to inform the general public that the fire outbreak that occurred at the Nigerian Breweries facility this afternoon, which also spread to other facilities within the vicinity and raged for some hours, has finally been successfully contained by the Abia State Emergency Services and other supporting agencies.”
