The convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Koughna, escaped an ambush by suspected Lakurawa terrorists near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State.
The incident happened while the GOC was on his way to visit troops deployed at the frontline in the state.
This was disclosed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division, on Monday evening.
According to the statement, the troops responded swiftly to the attack. The convoy engaged the assailants with superior firepower. Five terrorists were killed during the encounter, and the ambush was successfully repelled.
Items recovered after the operation included one OJC gun, one PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, a bandolier of PKT ammunition, several rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, a camel bag containing N840,000, two mobile phones, and five motorcycles.
