Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, 26 January 2026, shortly after his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
This was made known in a statement released on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The statement noted that Yusuf originally became a member of the APC in 2014 and won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat. He later withdrew from the race and conceded the position to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It stated that the governor’s return to the APC followed years of political activity across various parties, including his recent engagement with the NNPP. The statement added that considerations surrounding governance, national unity and development influenced his decision to return to the APC, which he described as “a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.”
Governor Yusuf said his decision would deepen collaboration with the Federal Government, speed up infrastructural development, improve security coordination and strengthen service delivery in Kano State. He also said the move would help sustain political unity and stability in the state.
According to the statement, Yusuf will officially register as an APC member in Kano on Monday alongside 22 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and the 44 local government chairmen.
The governor is also expected to formally commence the APC electronic registration exercise in the state on the same day.
