Nigerian singer Timaya has sparked reactions online after sharing his views about marriage and having children.
The Dem Mama crooner caused controversy in a viral video where he suggested that it is better to have children outside marriage, claiming that marriage does not always work.
In the clip, Timaya appeared alongside fellow singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, as they seemingly offered marital advice to their colleague Phyno.
Speaking in pidgin, Timaya said:
“Just born pikin, pikin go grow. This marriage thing no dey work.”
His comment triggered mixed reactions from those present in the video and from many social media users after the clip circulated online.
Timaya is a father of four children with three different women. He shares his first two daughters, Emmanuella and Gracey, with Barbara Fumnaya Nwaokolo. He also has a son, Emmanuel, with Tamar, and his youngest child, Maya, with Dunnie Onasanya.
In a previous interview with Naija FM in 2024, the singer explained that he remains unmarried in his 40s because he has never been particularly interested in marriage.
However, he noted that his opinion could change in the future.
