The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 35-year-old woman and her six children during a violent attack at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when unknown hoodlums reportedly forced their way into the family’s residence and attacked the occupants with dangerous weapons. The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 pm on January 17. The report concerned an attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
Kiyawa stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, promptly deployed officers to the scene. The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
According to the police, the victims were taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical attention. Hospital officials later confirmed their deaths.
“The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” Kiyawa said.
He added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police heading the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, had received instructions to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The aim, he said, was to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
The police command extended condolences to the affected family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State. It also assured the public that efforts were ongoing to ensure the suspects faced justice.
The killings have plunged the Dorayi Chiranchi community into deep sorrow. Residents have called on security agencies to strengthen protection in the area and prevent further attacks.
Meanwhile, in a related development earlier reported, a volunteer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdurrauf Sheriff, was stabbed to death by hoodlums in Kano.
