Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed concern over the rising cost of diesel needed to power his businesses.
The producer revealed that his operations now spend about ₦11 million on diesel within four to five weeks, a situation he said is putting serious pressure on his businesses.
Afolayan, who owns the KAP Film Village and Resort, made the disclosure in a video shared on his Instagram page.
In the video, he explained that the high cost of fuel is affecting the smooth running of his facilities.
According to him, the price of diesel has risen sharply and is now selling for about ₦1,500 per litre, making it difficult for his businesses to cope with the expenses.
He added that although solar power has been installed at the film village and some of his other facilities, they still rely heavily on diesel to maintain a steady electricity supply.
The filmmaker also disclosed that his businesses sometimes buy diesel on credit in order to keep operating.
He explained that payments are usually made gradually whenever money comes in, and it can take up to two months to settle outstanding debts.
He said:
“I’ve been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Village, we spend about N11m in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about N11m.
“The diesel we’ve been buying, we’ve been buying on credit. When we make small money, we find a way to pay. Sometimes it takes two months to even pay down and then get another one on credit.
“But now from about N1,000 or N995 to N1,500, it’s not sustainable. If you can come to our aid, I’ll really appreciate.”
His comments come amid recent increases in fuel prices after Dangote Petroleum Refinery raised the gantry price of petrol to ₦1,175 per litre from ₦995 per litre, marking one of several adjustments within a short period.
