A repentant member of Boko Haram has confessed that he killed more than 100 people during his time in the insurgent group.
The admission was made in a video shared on X, where he spoke during an interaction with a foreign vlogger at a rehabilitation camp where former fighters are being deradicalized.
In the video, the repentant fighter, speaking through an interpreter, openly admitted to taking part in multiple killings while operating in the bush.
He said:
“I have killed over 100 people.”
He explained that he joined the group at a very young age and was forced by older members to participate in violent operations.
According to him:
“I started when I was about 10 years old. The elders gave instructions, and we followed them.”
He added that most of the attacks happened in remote villages, where members were often ordered to raid communities.
The former fighter also revealed disturbing details about what happened to captured women during raids, saying they were sometimes forced into marriage with fighters due to the shortage of women in the camps.
“If they capture women, they marry them, because there are few women in the camp,” he said.
