Reality star and rapper Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, popularly known as Laycon, has opened up about his journey to self-discovery and the importance of inner peace.
The ‘Fierce’ crooner revealed that he lost his inner voice after winning the Big Brother Naija reality show in 2020 and only found it again about a year later.
Speaking in a recent video broadcast titled Life With Laycon, the rapper explained that silence has been a major factor in his journey of self-reflection.
“Has the world ever gone silent on you and all you have left was your own thoughts?” he asked.
Laycon said:
“I have been there and I want to share a part of that experience with you. After I won Big Brother Naija in 2020, I lost my inner voice and the first time I heard that voice again was December 2021 after my sold-out concert, The Icons Fest.
“The voice kept asking me questions like, ‘Is this really how you want to live? Are you enjoying yourself? What’s next after this? Are you happy?’
“Questions that made me want to sit alone with my thoughts. So that’s what I did. From that conversation came a lot of necessary but uncomfortable truths and realisation about myself.”
He noted that many people struggle with personal growth because they are afraid of loneliness and silence.
According to him, while silence can feel uncomfortable, it plays an important role in personal development.
Laycon explained that silence acts like a mirror, allowing individuals to reflect on their lives and make necessary changes.
He also encouraged his fans to embrace solitude and self-reflection as a way of taking responsibility for their personal growth.
