Nigerian rapper Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, has revealed that he is not seeking international validation and is proud to remain an indigenous artist.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the “Local Rapper” crooner said that understanding and staying connected to his audience has been a major part of his success.

He explained that he has no plans to change his sound or style just to appeal to a Western audience.

“You have to identify your audience. Once you know your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually. So, I have to stay true to myself no matter what,” Olamide said.

He added, “I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m a Naija guy, Yoruba boy, I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud of it. You just have to stay true to yourself.”
