The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has praised the outcome of the February elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing them as a boost to public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
In his Easter goodwill message to Christians, Amupitan, a professor of law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said the professionalism displayed during the FCT Area Council elections would help restore faith in democratic institutions.
“Reflecting on the first quarter of 2026, I am heartened by the professionalism you displayed during the FCT Area Council elections. We have shown that when we work together, we do more than just conduct polls; we restore the people’s faith in democratic institutions,” he said.
He urged electoral officials to remain committed ahead of upcoming elections.
“As we look toward the forthcoming off-cycle elections and the critical milestones in our 2027 roadmap, let this season of renewal inspire a fresh dedication to our duties. Our mandate to protect the sovereign will requires a spirit that does not tire,” he added.
