United States President Donald Trump has stated that Iran has agreed to halt its pursuit of nuclear weapons, describing the development as a key outcome of the ongoing U.S. military operation.
He made the remark on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Homeland Security Secretary, Markwayne Mullin, at the White House.
Addressing journalists, Trump said, “They (Iran) have agreed they will never have a nuclear weapon; they have agreed to that,” stressing that the issue had been central to tensions between both countries.
Recent briefings to the U.S. Senate by intelligence agencies indicated that Iran remains among a group of nations working on long-range missile capabilities that could potentially reach American territory.
The President maintained that the United States has already secured victory in the conflict. He suggested that military operations may end soon, although he did not provide a specific timeline for the withdrawal of troops and equipment.
Speaking on Iran’s political leadership, Trump expressed the view that a shift has already occurred, noting that many top officials are no longer in power. “This is a change in the regime because the leaders are all very different than the ones we started off with,” the President noted.
Trump also commended the performance of U.S. forces during the conflict. He disclosed that Iran launched about 100 missiles at the USS Abraham Lincoln, but “every single one was knocked down on the sea.”
He extended praise to U.S. allies in the Gulf region who faced retaliatory attacks. Referring to the United Arab Emirates, he said it was targeted with 1,400 rockets, adding, “They shot them all in the air with our Patriot missiles.”
On Saudi Arabia, Trump acknowledged the support of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. When asked about his role, the President responded: “He does—he is a warrior. He is fighting with us.”
Trump also downplayed Iran’s warning over the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that the United States retains control of strategic outcomes. “We will have control of anything we want,” he told reporters.
