American hip-hop legend Jay-Z has dismissed claims that he picked a side in the ongoing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Speaking in a recent interview with GQ, the Roc Nation boss clarified that his decision to select Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show was purely based on performance and not loyalty in their rivalry.
According to him:
“I chose the guy that was having a monster year, it wasn’t in some sort of alliance to a battle.”
Jay-Z also questioned the relevance of rap beefs in today’s music industry, noting that they often create unnecessary division among artists and fans.
He expressed concern over how such rivalries escalate beyond music, leading to personal attacks and even dragging artists’ families, including their children, into the conflict.
The music mogul concluded that hip-hop as a culture would benefit more from unity and creativity rather than ongoing feuds and battles.
