Senator Sabo Nakudu has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in what has been described as a major realignment in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Nakudu has served two terms each in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, bringing his cumulative legislative experience to 16 years between 2007 and 2023.

During his time in the Senate, he chaired the Committee on Downstream (Petroleum) Resources.

Nakudu contested against Governor Umar Namadi during the 2023 APC governorship primaries and is expected to run for governor on the ADC platform in 2027.

His defection also triggered a mass exodus from the APC, NNPP, and PDP into the ADC, with sources indicating that many of those who defected are his supporters aligned with his governorship ambition.

Speaking in Dutse after receiving his ADC membership card on Sunday, the former legislator said, “I am grateful to my supporters for turning out en masse to receive me into my new party,” adding, “I promise to work towards a greater Jigawa and the country at large.”
