LlFactional chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Senator Jibrin Doguwa, has dismissed the reported expulsion of a federal lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, describing it as an “illegal act” without legitimacy.

Doguwa disclosed this shortly after the chairman of the Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the party, Hashim Dungurawa, accused Jibrin of anti-party activities and failing to pay mandatory party dues leading to his expulsion.

But, Doguwa insisted that the action had no effect, arguing that it was carried out without the knowledge of the legitimate leadership of the party.

“I am the legitimate chairman of the party. This decision was made without our consent, so it has no effect,” he said.

Defending Jibrin’s recent television interview that sparked controversy, Doguwa said the lawmaker did not act against the party’s interest.

“What Kofa said was not anti-party. Every politician has the right to move from one platform to another. Even President Bola Tinubu changed parties before becoming who he is today,” Doguwa explained.

He accused Dungurawa of overstepping his boundary and threatened legal action if the rival group continued to expel party members. “If Dungurawa does not stop this illegality, we will meet him in court,” Doguwa warned.

The latest development underscored widening cracks within the NNPP, which has been struggling with leadership disputes since the 2023 general election.
