Officials of the Kwara State Fire Service have recovered the body of an unidentified man from a river located along the Osin/Laduba axis in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The discovery was reported on Thursday afternoon by personnel of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment, who alerted emergency responders to the scene.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the agency received the distress call at about 2:42 p.m.
“On Thursday, February 12, 2026, at about 14:42hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service received a call from staff of the Ministry of Environment reporting that a lifeless body had been found in a river along the Osin/Laduba axis,” Adekunle said.
He explained that firefighters moved to the location without delay and successfully retrieved the corpse. The deceased, believed to be about 43 years old, could not be identified at the time of recovery. The remains were subsequently handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for necessary procedures.
Adekunle added that health authorities carried out fumigation of the body and the surrounding environment to protect public health and maintain safety standards.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to be careful around rivers and other water bodies. He urged the public to always inform relevant agencies during emergencies. He also reaffirmed the service’s readiness to safeguard lives and cooperate with partner agencies in rescue operations across the state.
Authorities recalled a similar incident on October 8, 2025, when firefighters recovered the body of a man suspected to be mentally unstable from the Asa River along Emir’s Road in Ilorin.
