The Lagos State Domestic and Sxual Violence Agency has confirmed that Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been officially added to the Lagos State Sx Offenders’ Register after completing his prison sentence for s*xually assaulting a minor.
Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2021 for assaulting a 14-year-old girl and was sentenced to prison.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 17, the Lagos State Government—through the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro—debunked reports claiming that the Court of Appeal had cleared the actor. Pedro described the circulating claims as “false, misleading, and irresponsible,” stressing that Baba Ijesha’s conviction remains intact.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency also restated this position in a post shared on X on Sunday, November 16. The agency quoted the Attorney-General saying that Baba Ijesha’s name has been entered into the state’s s*x offenders’ database.
Pedro stated:
“Mr. Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”
He warned that the false claims being spread online—particularly those attributed to filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi—could mislead the public. He urged Lagos residents to ignore the misinformation and cautioned those promoting it to stop immediately.
According to Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021, Baba Ijesha’s inclusion in the S*x Offenders’ Register is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to protect minors, promote accountability, and ensure that accurate information is accessible to the public.
