Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea Set for Summer Battle Over Morgan Rogers

The summer transfer window is shaping up to feature one of the Premier League’s fiercest battles, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea all preparing bids for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers. The 23-year-old midfielder has become one of the league’s standout performers under Unai Emery, driving Villa’s push for a top-four finish and attracting interest from three of England’s biggest clubs.

According to The Times, Villa have placed a valuation of more than £80 million ($108m) on Rogers. Since joining from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for £15m, he has delivered 24 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, cementing his reputation as one of the most versatile and effective midfielders in the division. His profile is expected to rise further as he prepares to represent England at the upcoming World Cup under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Villa’s high asking price is partly influenced by a sell-on clause agreed during his transfer from Middlesbrough. The Championship side are entitled to 20 percent of any profit from a future sale, meaning Villa must secure a premium fee to maximize their return. With Rogers tied down to a contract until 2031 and no release clause, the Midlands club hold a strong negotiating position.

Despite their determination to keep him, Villa may struggle to resist a major offer. The club has faced financial sustainability challenges, reporting losses of £120.3m and £85.9m in consecutive seasons. Although they posted a profit last year, much of it came from one-off sales, including the women’s team and the “Warehouse” entertainment venue. A UEFA report recently flagged Villa’s financial risks, suggesting that selling a high-value player could be the most straightforward way to avoid breaching regulations.

Rogers himself is reportedly open to a move. While he has thrived at Villa Park, the chance to join a club consistently competing for the Premier League title and Champions League football is appealing as he enters the prime of his career.

Arsenal and United have both identified the left flank as a priority area for reinforcement. For Arsenal, signing Rogers could accelerate changes in their attacking lineup. Leandro Trossard, now 31, has struggled for consistency and has only one year left on his contract. Gabriel Martinelli’s future also remains uncertain, with the club weighing whether to commit to him long-term or reduce his role.

United view Rogers as a versatile option who can play wide or centrally. With INEOS overseeing a major squad overhaul, the Red Devils are targeting young, dynamic, homegrown talent. Rogers fits that profile perfectly, offering creativity and adaptability in midfield.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have tracked Rogers for over a year and remain firmly in contention. The Blues see him as a potential cornerstone of their rebuild, adding depth and quality to their attacking options.

With three of the Premier League’s heavyweights now officially in pursuit, Rogers’ future is set to dominate headlines this summer. Villa’s financial position, Rogers’ ambitions, and the determination of United, Arsenal, and Chelsea to strengthen their squads all point to a transfer saga that could define the window.
