Senator Ned Nwoko has reacted to the arrest of Ann Izuegbu Anthonet, a close friend of his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, following widespread public controversy surrounding the incident.
The arrest, which drew heavy criticism online, came after Regina Daniels questioned its legality and accused her estranged husband of using his influence to intimidate her associates.
Responding through his communication team in a statement shared on Instagram, Nwoko dismissed Daniels’ claims as “false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts.”
According to the statement, Ann was arrested for allegedly making defamatory and threatening allegations against the Nwoko family on social media. The team stated that Ann had publicly accused Nwoko of physically assaulting his wife, Laila Nwoko, and causing her to suffer a miscarriage — allegations the senator described as entirely false.
The statement further alleged that Ann played a role in procuring an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during her marriage to Nwoko. According to Nwoko’s camp, Ann allegedly caused Daniels to ingest substances that led to prolonged bleeding and resulted in the loss of Nwoko’s unborn child.
Nwoko also accused Ann of involvement in the handling and distribution of illegal substances, claiming that a formal witness statement concerning these allegations was submitted to the Maitama Police Station in October 2025.
His team maintained that Ann’s arrest was not related to personal disputes but was based on criminal complaints already under investigation by law enforcement agencies.
“This is not a social media dispute but a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies, and due process,” the statement said.
The senator’s response followed Regina Daniels’ recent confirmation that arrest warrants had been issued against her and some family members over allegations of stealing $40,000 from Nwoko’s residence.
The estranged couple’s private conflict became public in October 2025 after Daniels released a viral video accusing Nwoko of domestic violence. Nwoko denied the allegation, countering with claims that Daniels struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. Daniels later admitted to drug use but accused the senator of orchestrating it as a means of control.
The Nwoko family has urged the public to rely on verified information and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their investigations without interference.
