The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a sharp increase in the cost of obtaining an international passport, raising the fee for a 32-page booklet with five-year validity from N26,000 to N100,000.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Service said the new tariff will take effect from September 1, 2025.
Similarly, the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity will now cost N200,000.
The increment has stirred immediate reactions from Nigerians, many of whom consider the new rates prohibitive, given the country’s economic challenges.
Authorities said the adjustment was necessary to align with operational costs and global best practices.
