Healthcare services across Nigeria are facing major disruptions as over 25,000 nurses under the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions Sector, commenced a seven-day nationwide warning strike on Wednesday.
The industrial action, which began at midnight, follows the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued to the federal government over unmet demands.
National Chairman of NANNM-FHI, Comrade Morakinyo Rilwan, confirmed to Daily Trust that the strike involves a total withdrawal of services from all federal health institutions across the country.
Hospitals and clinics under federal control have already begun to feel the impact, with patients stranded and services stalled.
The union is demanding better welfare, improved working conditions, and implementation of pending agreements. The federal government is yet to respond publicly to the strike action.
