The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has intensified efforts to strengthen joint doctrine development in order to improve operational effectiveness across all theatres of operation.
This was the focus of a three-day working visit by a team from the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre (JDWC) to the Headquarters of Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North East (JTF NE), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). The visit, which began on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, was led by the Director General of the Centre, Major General Aniedi Edet.
During the engagement, Major General Edet said the JDWC was created to harmonise doctrine development, standardise joint operational procedures, and deepen cooperation among the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the Nigerian Navy Training Command, and the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre.
He stressed that successful joint operations rely on unity of effort, shared situational awareness, and strong coordination among the services. He added that doctrines must reflect realities from active operational environments.
Major General Edet stated that Operation HADIN KAI offers valuable lessons in joint planning, force integration, stabilisation tasks, and civil–military coordination. He noted that these experiences serve as vital inputs for developing responsive and adaptable joint doctrines.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander of JTF NE OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, restated the command’s commitment to joint operational principles and pledged full support for doctrine development grounded in field experience.
He explained that a structured and modern doctrine would strengthen decision-making, improve the use of joint capabilities, and enhance coordination in complex security settings.
Major General Abubakar also spoke on ongoing stabilisation activities under Operation HADIN KAI. He outlined key operational challenges, recent achievements, and lessons learned, which he said would make a meaningful contribution to refining existing doctrines.
Both senior officers emphasised the need for capability development and reforms in defence procurement. They noted that the availability of essential military assets remains vital to sustaining operational tempo and achieving mission objectives.
The visit featured detailed operational briefings and professional exchanges at the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI and across its various components. The engagement concluded on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
