Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has approved the appointment of Abdullahi Bello, the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, as a commissioner-designate. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade.
The appointment follows the resignation of Mohammed Yusuf, who previously served as Commissioner for Works. In response, the governor also approved a minor cabinet reshuffle. Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat, formerly in charge of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Works.
The statement highlighted Bello’s nomination as a significant development. Popularly known as “Dollar,” Bello is expected to undergo screening and confirmation by the Kogi State House of Assembly before formally assuming office. His appointment reflects Ododo’s effort to strengthen his cabinet with experienced political figures.
Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioner for his contributions to the state and wished him success in future endeavors. He emphasized that the redeployment of Deedat and the new appointment are effective immediately, signaling a swift transition in leadership within the ministries.
The changes mark an important adjustment in the state’s executive team, aimed at ensuring continuity and efficiency in governance. Bello’s inclusion as commissioner-designate is expected to bring political weight and administrative experience to the cabinet, while Deedat’s redeployment positions him to oversee critical infrastructure projects under the Ministry of Works.
By reshuffling key positions and introducing new leadership, Ododo has reinforced his commitment to responsive governance and effective service delivery. The move also underscores the governor’s readiness to adapt his cabinet structure to meet the evolving needs of Kogi State.
