The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning amid the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying neither he nor his loyalists will be used as bargaining tools in any political negotiation.
Wike made the statement in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with Concerned PDP Stakeholders following a Federal High Court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Expressing concern over what he described as the internal destruction of the PDP, Wike emphasized the need for a return to due process and fairness within the party.
“Let me be clear — nobody, and I mean nobody, will use us to negotiate for anything,” he declared. “We are part of this party; we have sacrificed for it. But we will not allow anybody to trade us off for personal gain. Those of us fighting today are not doing so for ourselves. We are doing it because we want the PDP to stand for something — for due process, fairness, and respect for the law.”
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court had earlier restrained the PDP from holding its convention, ruling in favor of three aggrieved members who challenged the party’s compliance with its internal regulations.
The judge ordered the PDP to resolve its internal disputes and issue the required 21-day notice before rescheduling the convention.
The ruling and Wike’s remarks further highlight the deepening divisions within the opposition party as it struggles to stabilize ahead of its next leadership congress.
