Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.
The news of her death was confirmed on Tuesday evening by a close source familiar with the family. As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by her family, but further details are expected in the coming days.
Akinnanu’s death comes after months of public concern over her health. She had earlier appealed for prayers and divine intervention while battling a serious leg ailment. In late 2025, a video of the singer at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, surfaced online, showing her seated with her leg stretched out as prayers were offered for her healing.
During the church service, the presiding cleric disclosed that the singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding from her leg, which led to an intense prayer session. The video went viral, sparking widespread concern, prayer vigils, and an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers across the country.
Despite the public attention, the exact medical details surrounding her illness were never officially disclosed.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her music journey at the age of 10. She later resigned from a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time, rising to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that deeply resonated with many Nigerians. Over the years, she released several gospel songs and earned recognition as one of the respected voices in Nigeria’s gospel music scene.
