Real Madrid manager, Alvaro Arbeloa, has given reasons for his team’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
Bayern Munich secured victory through goals from Luis Díaz and Harry Kane, leaving Real Madrid with a tough task ahead of next week’s return leg.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Arbeloa admitted that two mistakes by his side proved decisive.
“This is a defeat we perhaps could have avoided in the second half with a bit more luck,” Arbeloa said.
He added, “We faced a great team, and we knew it. We made two mistakes, two turnovers, which we had discussed before the match and during halftime, that we needed to avoid.”
Arbeloa acknowledged that despite their preparations, the errors cost the team the match. Real Madrid will look to correct these mistakes in the second leg as they fight to advance to the next stage of the competition.
