The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has suspended a prominent member, Fubara Dagogo, over allegations of anti-party conduct.

The decision was reached by the Ward 4 Executive Committee in Bonny Local Government Area after accusations of misconduct were brought against him.

The development followed a legal action initiated by Dagogo against the party concerning its forthcoming national convention. He approached a Federal High Court in Abuja and sought an order to stop the planned exercise.

In his suit, Dagogo argued that he was unfairly denied the opportunity to contest for the position of National Vice-Chairman (South-South). He stated that despite paying N5.1 million for the nomination form, the party failed to provide the necessary documents to complete his candidacy.

He also asked the court to halt the South-South zonal congress and affirm his eligibility for the position. In addition, he requested that any election conducted without his participation be nullified. He demanded N100 million as damages, which he described as compensation for marginalization.

However, party leaders at the ward level viewed his court action as a violation of internal party rules.

The Ward Chairman, Richard Ibani, announced the suspension. He said the resolution was adopted during a committee meeting held on March 16.

A document confirming the decision was signed by the Ward Secretary, Donald Jumbo, along with 21 other executive members.

The ward leadership maintained that Dagogo’s actions embarrassed the party and breached the APC Constitution 2022 as amended. They cited Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII), which relate to party discipline and members’ conduct.

In a statement, the committee stressed that members had been warned against actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute.

They stated: “The ward exco has always advised its members to desist from actions capable of ridiculing our party, but your recent actions have shown that you are not willing to respect and abide by the constitution and actions of our great party.”

The suspension takes immediate effect and has no stated duration.

Ward leaders have also urged the state secretariat of the party to uphold the decision and take any further necessary steps.
