Squirrels new coach, Gernor Rohr has expressed disappointment following the Cheetahs’ 4-0 loss to the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday night.
Rohr’s side entered their final Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the top of the standings but slipped to third after the defeat, ending their hopes of reaching the tournament for the first time.
The result also meant Benin failed to secure a playoff spot. Despite the setback, Rohr said the team will focus on rebuilding and preparing for future competitions.
“We’re disappointed because our dream was to play at the World Cup,” Rohr said during his interaction with the media after the game.
“Big disappointment, that is my initial reaction.
“However, we have a young team and we will continue to build.
“I am proud of my team because they did very well despite all the several challenges we had during the World Cup qualifiers.”
