Segun Akinlolu, popularly known as Beautiful Nubia, has publicly accused gospel musician Yinka Ayefele and a new artiste identified as BBO of allegedly copying the melody of his original song, “Seven Lifes.”
Beautiful Nubia made the allegation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that Ayefele’s 2012 track, “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti),” and BBO’s recent song, “Amin,” both drew their melodies from his work without permission.
He wrote:
“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012 and now someone called BBO with ‘Amin’ this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song ‘Seven Lifes’.”
Raising concerns about what he described as a recurring issue in the industry, he added:
“When will Nigerians, especially the so-called gospel musicians, learn to respect copyright?”
The veteran singer, known for his culturally rooted storytelling and unique sound, expressed worry over copyright infringement and the need to protect originality within the gospel music scene.
His comments have since sparked discussions among music lovers, reigniting debates about intellectual property rights, creative ownership, and ethical standards in Nigeria’s music industry.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Yinka Ayefele nor BBO has publicly responded to the allegations.
