The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Edoma Omoregie, made the official declaration at the INEC collation centre in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday morning.
According to the results announced, Soludo polled the highest number of valid votes, defeating his closest rivals from the major political parties in the keenly contested poll.
In his remarks after the declaration, Prof. Omoregie said the election was largely peaceful and commended the people of Anambra for their orderly conduct throughout the process.
Soludo’s victory marks another triumph for APGA, the ruling party in the state, and further strengthens its foothold in Anambra’s political landscape.
Celebrations have erupted across parts of the state as supporters of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor hailed the outcome, describing it as a reflection of the people’s will.
INEC is expected to issue a certificate of return to the governor-elect in the coming days.
