Women from Tiv communities in Takum and Donga Local Government Areas of Taraba State have raised concerns about attacks that have left many widowed, homeless, and unable to farm.
The affected communities include Adu, Gbundu, Demevaa, Tor-Damisa, and New Gboko. Over the weekend, the women appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas to send security forces to restore peace and allow them to return home.
Speaking for the group, their leader, Mrs. Msughshima Tersugh, described the situation as dire. She said the attacks, which began in October last year, have displaced families and destroyed their main source of livelihood.
“We have lost our husbands, our homes and our farms. Our children are hungry and we don’t know how long we can survive like this,” Tersugh said.
She blamed the violence on suspected armed groups, saying that homes were burned and farmlands destroyed. The insecurity has made it impossible for residents to return, especially as the rainy season starts.
Tersugh warned that missing this farming season threatens food security and survival for many families. “We are pleading with the governor and the President to help us with security so we can go back to our farms. Farming is our only means of survival,” she added.
The women urged the Taraba State Government to deploy enough security personnel to protect lives and property, help them return home, and prevent further hardship. Tersugh stressed that failure to act now could worsen hunger and trigger a humanitarian crisis, with long-term consequences for food supply.
