Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly killed an unspecified number of soldiers during an attack in Borno State.
The assault occurred on Wednesday in Ngoshe town, located in Gwoza Local Government Area. Reports said the gunmen targeted a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in the community.
According to Daily Trust, the attackers stormed the town in the evening shortly after Muslims ended their daily Ramadan fast. Residents reported hearing heavy gunfire as the insurgents shot sporadically during the raid.
Details about the incident remain unclear. However, sources said the assailants abducted about 100 women and children during the operation.
The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume, confirmed that the attack took place.
Ndume urged the military to intensify operations against insurgents operating in Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains.
