At least three people have been killed and one person injured after gunmen carried out another attack in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident has raised fresh concerns about worsening insecurity in the area.
The victims were identified as Luka Sandu Pam (36), Samuel Davou (38), and Deme Saidu (35). They were reportedly attacked while returning home from Gero on a motorbike.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were among about 15 youths coming back from a mining site when they were ambushed by the attackers.
Speaking on the incident, the Gyel Youth Leader, Dung Davou, said the group suddenly came under attack from suspected armed herdsmen, forcing them to run for safety.
“We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed,” he said.
He called on authorities to urgently step in and stop what he described as repeated and unprovoked attacks on the community.
The attack comes just days after another deadly incident in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where at least 10 people were killed and several others injured when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community.
