President Bola Tinubu on Thursday offered words of comfort to a grieving mother whose anguish became widely known after a viral video showed her clutching the lifeless body of her son, Ayuba, following the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos, Plateau State.

During his condolence visit to the state, Tinubu addressed the woman directly, acknowledging the pain captured in the video. “I know the pain; I saw how, in the video, you held on to your son, Ayuba, and the agony in your heart. But it is only God who can give you joy and comfort,” he said while meeting families of victims and community representatives.

The President stressed that no amount of compensation could replace the lives lost but assured the victims of government support. “No amount of money can pay all of you back. As a government, we will do our best to comfort you,” he added.

Tinubu arrived in Jos earlier in the day, following last Sunday’s attack in Angwan Rukuba that left at least 27 people dead. He was received by All Progressives Congress National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and other senior officials.

The President had already condemned the killings in Jos and a separate attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted. Speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that perpetrators would be brought to justice.

He also cautioned against framing the attacks as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could inflame tensions and worsen the crisis. Tinubu emphasized that unity and collective resolve are essential in confronting insecurity.

His visit to Jos underscores the government’s commitment to supporting victims and restoring confidence in affected communities. By directly engaging with grieving families and condemning the violence, Tinubu sought to reassure citizens that the administration remains focused on justice, security, and national cohesion.
