Nicolo Tresoldi, Germany’s Under-21 striker, has become the subject of growing interest from several national teams. Argentina, according to Bild, has already made contact with the player, hoping to convince him to switch allegiance. His eligibility stems from his mother, Barbara Caffi, who is Argentine.
Tresoldi’s background reflects his diverse options. Born in Sardinia, he spent his early years in Italy before moving to Hanover as a teenager. He joined Hannover 96’s youth academy and progressed through the ranks. In 2022, at age 18, he obtained German citizenship and debuted for Germany’s U19 side. Since then, he has represented the German youth teams, though Italy has also expressed interest.
In October, Tresoldi acknowledged the possibility of playing for Italy. Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, he said he would welcome a call from coach Gennaro Gattuso but emphasized his current commitment to Germany’s U21s. “I feel very much at home,” he stated, while leaving the door open for future discussions.
Germany’s senior coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed in November that Tresoldi is on his radar, mentioning him publicly during a press conference. However, he was not selected for friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana. Instead, Tresoldi featured for the U21s, scoring twice in a 3-0 European Championship qualifier win over Northern Ireland. His next test comes against Greece.
Tresoldi’s club career has also accelerated. Last summer, he transferred from Hannover 96 to Belgian side Club Brugge for €7.5 million. In his debut season, he has impressed with 17 goals and five assists across 48 matches, quickly establishing himself as a key player.
With Argentina, Italy, and Germany all monitoring his progress, Tresoldi faces a unique decision. His performances at both club and youth international level have heightened his profile, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards. The coming months may determine not only his future at the highest level of club football but also which nation he ultimately represents on the international stage.
