The University of Jos has confirmed the killing of two of its students following violent attacks in Angwan Kukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the impact of the attacks on the university community. He said five members of the institution were affected, including four students and one staff member.
The deceased students were identified as Abel Joro Gershon, a 300-level Building student, and Adeyomo Oluwafemi Temitope, a 500-level Quantity Surveying student.
According to him, Gershon was shot in the stomach during an attack in Angwan Rukuba and later died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital on April 5, while Temitope was shot dead on April 1 outside the campus along Bauchi Road.
Three other victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital for injuries sustained during the attacks.
Prof. Ishaya expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that security measures around the university have been strengthened.
He also confirmed that academic activities have resumed across campuses despite the tragic incidents.
