The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has explained the reasons behind his decision to return to the classroom to study law.
The monarch spoke with journalists on Friday after attending his lectures, where he described law as a discipline many people pursue later in life, especially after retirement.
According to Emir Sanusi, the influence of law cuts across all aspects of human life.
“There’s nothing you will do without the law. The law tells you how you drive on the road. The law deals with how you handle your family, your marriage. The law deals with your contracts. The law deals with with land issues, property issues, succession issues.
“It’s it’s basically a field that we should as much as possible be familiar with. The day you don’t have law and order, the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must. So law is the safeguard and the guardian for us, for a decent and stable society.”
He also reflected on his long academic journey and his continued attachment to formal learning.
“The classroom is my default. I was telling the students that the first time I was at level 200 was in 1978. The second time was 1992. So, this is actually my third bachelor’s degree I’m going for. Law is a course I have always wanted to study,” he said.
Emir Sanusi’s return to school has continued to attract public attention, with many praising his commitment to education despite his status and age.
