Fresh controversy has erupted in Abuja after Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, reportedly revoked 30 hectares of land originally allocated to serving and retired military officers and reallocated it to his political associates — including, allegedly, the current INEC Chairman, Prof. Sam Amupitan.
A lawyer involved in the case told SaharaReporters that the revocation was done “in total disregard of due process, official recommendations, and existing approvals.” The disputed land, located in Gudu District, was initially designated for parks and recreation but was later reclassified by Wike for “multi-purpose” use.
Tensions peaked on Tuesday when soldiers blocked Wike and his team from accessing the property. A viral video showed the minister in a heated exchange with an army officer identified as Capt. Adam Yariman.
According to sources, former naval chief Awwal Gambo and several serving officers had already developed parts of the site before Wike’s move to reclaim it. The Nigerian Army has reportedly challenged the minister to take the matter to court, accusing him of ignoring legal processes.
Wike, however, has maintained that aggrieved parties should “go to court” — even as the legal dispute deepens.
