Troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attack carried out by suspected terrorists in Garin Hillo Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday.
According to him, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 17 after personnel at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gatawa received intelligence about terrorist movement in the area.
“The troops quickly moved to the location, where they encountered the attackers and engaged them in a gun battle. The terrorists were eventually forced to retreat under pressure from the military,” Makama wrote.
Reports indicate that about 30 armed men entered the village on foot. They fired shots sporadically, which caused panic among residents.
Six civilians sustained injuries during the attack. Authorities evacuated the victims to the General Hospital in Sabon Birni, where they are receiving medical attention.
Makama added that military personnel have strengthened their presence in the area. Troops now conduct regular patrols to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
