No fewer than 30 persons have lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a trailer at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning, according to available reports. Several other victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to different hospitals for urgent medical attention.

Sources said the trailer involved in the crash was travelling towards Gujungu in neighbouring Jigawa State before the accident happened.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has since expressed deep sympathy with families of those who died in the crash. He also directed that survivors receive medical care at no cost.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the incident as “heartbreaking and a great loss, not only to the affected families but to the entire people of Kano state.”

“Governor Yusuf prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the strength to bear the painful loss,” the statement reads.

“He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.”

The spokesperson added that the governor instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to immediately evaluate the situation of victims and recommend support measures for bereaved families.

Tofa further stated that the governor warned motorists to be cautious on the roads.

“Governor Yusuf also cautioned motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to avoid reckless driving and strictly adhere to traffic regulations in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future,” he added.
