Nigerian singer Chike has revealed the relationship advice his mother gave him, especially when it comes to choosing a life partner.

Speaking during an interview on Ada’s Room podcast, the singer said his mother warned him against marrying a woman who does not add value to his life, regardless of love.

According to him, she specifically advised him not to marry an unemployed woman or someone without a source of income.

“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value. Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said.

Chike added that his mother also cautioned him about marrying from a poor background, explaining that such situations could come with heavy financial responsibilities.

“She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive,” he added.

The singer explained that because of this advice, he takes time to understand a woman’s background and level of productivity before entering into a serious relationship.

He also advised men to think beyond physical attraction and consider important factors like responsibility, stability, and long-term compatibility when choosing a partner.
