The Australian government has officially banned American rapper Kanye Wests visa, following his release of the song Heil Hitler, which many say promotes Nazi ideology.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke shared the news on Tuesday. He said that earlier antisemitic comments-Kanyes claims on X that I love Hitler and Im a Nazi-didnt move the visa needle, but the new track prompted a fresh look.
Burke stated that lyrics seen as spreading hate and violence are simply unacceptable, so the government was forced to revoke Kanyes permission to enter the country.
In his words:
“It was a lower-level visa and the officials still looked at the law and said, ‘You’re going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism, we don’t need that in Australia’”.
“We have enough problems in this country already without deliberately importing bigotry.”
