A factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has confirmed his presence at the party’s event where the interim leadership of David Mark was unveiled.
Bala was responding to viral videos and pictures suggesting he supported the emergence of David Mark as the party’s national chairman.
According to The Guardian, Bala explained that the July 2, 2025 event was convened to adopt the ADC as the coalition platform, but maintained that the process which dissolved the then substantive leadership was faulty.
“Contrary to expectations, the event took an unexpected turn when Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, the then national chairman, was given the floor to deliver his welcome address.
“In a surprising move, he announced his resignation, issued membership cards to Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and declared them acting national chairman and national secretary,” he said.
He added, “There was no formal vote or consensus on the appointments, and several members of the National Working Committee were taken aback by the developments.”
He further said that his presence at the meeting, as well as prior engagements with coalition partners, should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the appointments.
The leadership tussle within the ADC persists, as INEC has withdrawn recognition of both David Mark and Nafiu Bala.
