Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has resolved tensions with the club following a period of uncertainty about his future. The Argentine World Cup winner was briefly dropped from the squad after comments about his career sparked speculation of a possible move to Real Madrid. His agent, Javier Pastore, has now clarified the situation, insisting Fernandez remains committed to Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez, signed for £107 million from Benfica, had faced intense scrutiny after admitting he was unsure about his long-term future at Chelsea. He also mentioned his interest in living in Madrid, which fueled speculation of a transfer. Manager Liam Rosenior responded by excluding him from the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City, accusing the player of “crossing a line.”
Pastore has categorically denied that Fernandez is seeking an exit. Speaking to Top Mercato, he explained that the midfielder’s remarks were misinterpreted. “He only spoke about a city. Then there were many interviews in a short space of time where he talked about his future. The media mixed a lot of things together and started saying he was going to leave Chelsea. There is nothing at all to it,” Pastore said.
The agent confirmed that Fernandez has since apologised to the club, teammates, and management. “We made peace yesterday and the day before between Chelsea and the player. There was never really a problem. We have cleared things up,” Pastore added. He emphasised that Fernandez remains one of the team’s leaders and has shown his commitment on the pitch throughout the season.
Despite defending his client, Pastore acknowledged that Fernandez made a mistake in how he handled the media. At 25, he is still learning to navigate the pressures of being a high-profile Premier League player. “We explained to the player that, even if he did nothing wrong, he should not have said that. He is still young and has things to learn. He said it without malice, but he was wrong to do so,” Pastore noted.
Fernandez’s long-term contract, which runs for six more years, underscores Chelsea’s intention to keep him central to their plans. The Blues currently sit sixth in the Premier League and remain in contention for a top-four finish. They also face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final, making Fernandez’s availability vital for the final stretch of the season.
Pastore highlighted the importance of the partnership between player and club. “Chelsea are playing for a Champions League place through the Premier League, which is hugely important for the club. Enzo needs to play because he has a World Cup coming up. Chelsea need him because he is a key player in their team. We spoke, we sorted everything out on both sides. Things are perfectly clear. There is no conflict whatsoever,” he said.
Since joining Chelsea, Fernandez has been a consistent performer despite the team’s struggles. His leadership role and contributions in midfield remain crucial as the club seeks stability under Rosenior. The reconciliation ensures that Chelsea can rely on one of their most valuable assets during a decisive period in the campaign.
The episode serves as a reminder of the challenges players face in balancing media attention with professional responsibilities. For Fernandez, the lesson has reinforced the importance of clarity in communication and loyalty to the club. Chelsea, meanwhile, can move forward with renewed focus as they chase Champions League qualification and domestic success.
