A 27-year-old man, identified as Chidi Ebere, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State for allegedly killing a commercial motorcyclist, Sunday Ogbu, in Igbesa.
According to the police, the incident happened around 7am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when the suspect reportedly posed as a passenger and boarded the victim’s motorcycle.
The situation escalated when he allegedly attempted to hijack the bike, leading to a violent struggle in which the rider was stabbed.
A witness raised the alarm, prompting police officers from the Igbesa Division to rush to the scene. The victim was taken to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect was immediately arrested and the weapon used in the attack, along with the motorcycle, was recovered as evidence.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident and assured that justice would be served, while urging residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
